ISLAMABAD: Nawaz Sharif arrived at the Accountability Court today for the hearing of Avenfield properties reference case against him and his family.
Accountability Court-I Judge Mohammad Bashir is presiding the hearing session of the corruption cases against Nawaz, his daughter Maryam and son-in-law MNA Capt (retd) Safdar.
Maryam Nawaz is not accompanying her father in court today.
At the previous hearing, Nawaz’s counsel Khawaja Haris crossed examined the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) investigation officer Imran Dogar in the Avenfield properties case.
Maryam’s counsel Amjad Pervez cross-examined Dogar as the hearing went underway.
Dogar is also the prosecution’s final witness.
Nawaz later left the courtroom and spoke to the media outside the court.
Nawaz said that this was his 62nd appearance before the court and wondered how long the cases would drag on.
At the previous hearing, Dogar told the court that NAB had filed the reference on the basis of the information gathered by the Supreme Court-appointed Panama case Joint Investigation Team (JIT).
The Sharif family is facing three corruption cases in the accountability court after the NAB filed references against them following the Panama case verdict by Supreme Court.
The trial against the Sharif family started on 14 September 2017.
The corruption references, filed against the family, are related to the Al-Azizia Steel Mills and Hill Metal Establishment, offshore companies including Flagship Investment Ltd, and Avenfield properties of London.
Nawaz and his sons Hassan and Hussain are accused in all three references whereas his daughter, Maryam and son-in-law Safdar are accused in the Avenfield reference only.
